UNPBC | Beginner

Committee Introduction

Established in 2005, the United Nations Peacebuilding Commission (UNPBC) “is an intergovernmental advisory body that supports peace efforts in conflict affected countries” (UN).The UNPBC is comprised of 31 member states, 7 selected from the Security Council (UNSC), 7 from the General Assembly (GA), 7 from ECOSOC, 5 from the top UN troop contributors, and 5 from the top UN budget contributors. As a subsidiary body of the GA and UNSC, the UNPBC is tasked with raising global awareness and providing political help to conflict-stricken countries looking to foster peace, promoting a multifaceted approach to peacebuilding, existing as a bridge between principle UN organs, and improving the implementation and financing of peacebuilding of any relevant entity regardless of stature. Perfect for beginner and intermediate delegates, the United Nation Peacebuilding Commission offers a unique blend of both the General Assembly and United Nations Security Council.

Committee Staff

Megan Wong

Megan Wong is a senior at Juanita High School and is currently in her fourth year of Model United Nations. After staffing and participating in numerous conferences, she is ecstatic to be serving as director for the first installation of the United Nations Peacebuilding Commission! When not immersed in intense international debate, you can find her passed out on the couch (for five hours at a time), drowning in the swimming pool, or volunteering through Key Club (go D27!). She loves the diplomatic and collaborative aspect of MUN and is excited to ~peacefully~ solve conflicts with UNPBC delegates at KINGMUN 2020!

Benita Samson

Benita is a junior at Bellarmine Preparatory School and she is thrilled to be a part of KINGMUN 2020! She is so excited to be able to staff the UNPBC this year, and can’t wait to meet all the delegates. Benita has been a delegate at eight conferences now, and she’s staffed twice, at BELLARMUN 2019 and EDUMUN 2019. Outside of MUN, Benita is interested in a variety of extremely unrelated things such as traveling, playing the clarinet, advocating for the environment, and hanging out with her dog! Seriously, ask her about her dog. She is sure that KINGMUN 2020 will be one of her most memorable experiences yet, and she’s excited to see what the UNPBC delegates have in store!

Rory McNerney

Assistant Director

Rory McNerney is a shy junior at the International Community School in Kirkland and cannot wait to meet new and passionate delegates at KINGMUN 2020. Currently in his third year of MUN, Rory has attended 11 conferences, and is excited to continue staffing at KINGMUN as the Assistant Director of the United Nations PeaceBuilding Commission (UNPBC). Outside of MUN, Rory enjoys watching artistic films, writing poetry for his school’s publication, and playing soccer for his local club. In committee, Rory hopes delegates will not try to force their ideas onto others, but rather reach across blocs to work with others and compromise on solutions to foster peace that everyone can agree on.
