UNSC | Advanced
The United Nations Security Council (UNSC) is one of the most powerful bodies in the United Nations. With a broad mandate of ensuring “the maintenance of international peace and security,” UNSC is the sole UN body with the power to create binding resolutions, establish sanctions, install peacekeepers, and approve international military intervention. The Council is made up of five permanent member nations—China, France, Russia, the United Kingdom, and the United States— and ten other rotating members. The aforementioned core members, known as the Big Five, also have the ability to unilaterally veto any resolution proposed, which creates an exciting and unique dynamic for debate and problem-solving. This committee will feature nuanced, complex debate between advanced delegates with competing geopolitical interests but shared incentives for global security. To exercise the true authority of the United Nations, join us for an unparalleled experience in UNSC.
Position Papers must be emailed to the dais at email@example.com by April 19, 2021, 6:59 AM UTC for delegates to be eligible for awards. Further questions or extension requests may be directed to the dais.

Kellen Hoard is a junior at Inglemoor High School and is thrilled to be your director for the best committee at KINGMUN 2021. While he has been involved with Model UN as a delegate, staffer, secretariat member, and co-President of his school club, he is always learning new things about MUN that he probably should have known much earlier. Every MUN conference he has attended in any capacity has been a delight, and he is looking forward to sharing that experience with those who wisely chose to become UNSC delegates. Beyond MUN, Kellen is deeply involved in politics and numismatics, and considers himself a connoisseur of fruit snacks.
Raheel is a senior at Lake Washington High School. He is very excited to be your chair for the UNSC. He joined MUN last year and fell in love with it after his first conference (PACMUN 2019). Outside of MUN, Raheel works at the Loli and Pops candy store and is one of his school’s Honor Society officers. For fun, Raheel is usually on his phone binging TV shows on Netflix and Hulu! He is delighted to staff his third MUN conference at KINGMUN 2020!
Sirjan Uppal is a junior at North Creek High School and is delighted to serve as your assistant director for KINGMUN 2021! She discovered Model United Nations when her friends convinced her to attend SeattleMUN 2019, immediately falling in love with the community, the fast-paced debate, and the international aspect. Outside of MUN, Sirjan is an advocate for environmental sustainability and will inform anyone willing to listen about Arcadia, which is a free way to use clean energy. She also helps run her school’s Environmental Action Club and is a sustainability ambassador. In her free time, she enjoys baking and reading.
